The meeting was called under By-Law 5.60 to discuss the possible move of the Local Office from its present location to a building located at 962 Wayne Avenue, Silver Spring, Md
Discussion of the current condition of the existing office space in the Knights of Columbus building at 5034 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 202. Our lease in this office space expires March 31, 2001. As of April 1, 2001 the rent would go from ca. $13/sq ft to $20.50/sq ft with a 3% increase in each of the following years of the lease. In the negotiations of the new lease certain improvements and/or renovations were requested and agreed upon by both parties. After the negotiation meeting, Vice President Lorek put the improvements/renovations and time frames into the form of a letter and requested that the Knights confirm the agreement by their signature. The representative of the Knights, Sam Bromley, would not agree to do this. At the same time President Allmond received a phone call from a realtor who said he had office space available in the same building in Silver Spring that the District Two offices were located. The space would be a sublet of 2200 sq ft for 34.5 months at the rate of $20/sq ft with a 3% increase yearly. The offices now occupy 1660 sq ft. Several officers and staff have inspected the office space and have found it to be a good location with access to subway, public transportation, parking and the use of the District Twos facilities for meetings, etc. as well as their legal and computer staff.
