Charles Fekete has passed away

It is with deep regret to announce that Charles (Chuck) Fekete, longtime NBC/WRC cameraman and NABET-CWA Local 31 member, passed away on March 9, 2019 at his home in Florida. He had a long and distinguished career shooting news and documentaries at NBC/WRC. He was highly regarded and well respected among his colleagues and friends.

Chuck leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Bobbi and three sons. Chuck was 85 years old.

NBCU Negotiations Tentative Agreement

Your Union and NBCUniversal have reached an overall tentative agreement for a new Master Agreement to replace the contract that expired March 31, 2018. The tentative agreement was reached on February 14, 2019, after more than a year of negotiations in New York City and Los Angeles, which began on January 3, 2018. Your bargaining committee unanimously recommends that you vote to ratify this tentative agreement.

Shop Steward Nomination Petitions Now Available

Selection for shop stewards in all contract areas is in progress. Each Shop Steward is elected from the Steward group in which he/she is deemed a member by the Local Executive Board. Elections for Shop Steward shall be held by secret ballot every three years between February 15th and March 30th. Shop Stewards shall hold office for three years beginning April 1st of the year of their election. Nominating petitions can be downloaded here and are also available from the Local 31 Office 301/459-4999. Petitions must be signed by the nominator, seconder and the nominee. All signatories must be members in good standing and working in the same Steward group. Original petitions must be received in the Local 31 Office no later than 1:00 pm on 2/15/19. Ballots will be distributed on 3/1/19 and must be received in the Local Office by 12:00 noon on 3/22/19.

ABC Job Opening: Control Center Engineer

Summary:
The ABC News Acquisition Center (NAC) in Washington is a 24/7 News operation responsible for booking and managing all feeds in and out of the Washington News Bureau, as well as operational coordination for ABC News programs, ESPN shows based in the bureau, breaking news and large scale planned special events. The ABC Washington NAC is responsible for handling video feeds routed through the Bureau via satellite, microwave, fiber and IP, therefore in-depth knowledge and skill in those areas is a must. The position entails high-level coordination, documentation and routing of all transmissions such as correspondent live shots, network pool feeds, guest interviews, live hearings and any live coverage for ABC platforms and clients. Good communication skills both verbal and written are essential.

This position is a full-time union position. Candidates must have the ability to operate in a busy, ever changing news environment. Candidates are expected to collaborate in a team environment, but also expected to work solo at times, be a self-starter and be flexible with work hours in a 24/7 department.

James Harvey has passed away

It is with great sadness to inform you that James "Jim Harvey" passed away November 10, 2018.
 
Jim was President Emeritus of NABET-CWA Local 52031.

JAMES DAVID HARVEY

On Saturday, November 10, 2018 of Bethesda MD. Born December 25, 1926 in New Haven, CT to the late William and Emma Harvey. He is survived by his son, Alan Harvey. He was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Lorraine Harvey; daughter, Lynn Harvey; brother, George Harvey; and step-father, Adam Melillo. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII and the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

After discharge from the military he went to work at WNHC-TV in New Haven, CT as a TV Engineer. He left WNHC in 1956 to become Regional Director for the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians representing TV and Radio employees at ABC and NBC. In 1962 Mr. Harvey joined ABC News as a TV Engineer at their new Washington D.C. news bureau. In his 29 years at ABC he served as Studio Cameraman, Technical Director, Remote Supervisor, Electronic News-gathering Cameraman/Sound man and Maintenance supervisor. Some of the events he covered included the funerals of Presidents Kennedy and Eisenhower, Inaugural Parades, election nights, Watergate hearings and in 1972 he was a member of the advance group of TV Engineers that went to China to prepare for the visit of President Nixon. After retiring from ABC NEWS in 1991 he went to work as NABET Local 31 Vice President, and later President, retiring in 2000.

Family will receive friends at PUMPHREY’S BETHESDA-CHEVY CHASE FUNERAL HOME 7557 Wisconsin Ave, Bethesda, MD on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 3 to 6 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church, 9601 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda, MD on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 11am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. If desired, contributions in the name of James Harvey May be made to the Bethesda Chevy Chase Rescue Squad (www.bccrs.org).
